Voll der Osten – Das Leben in der DDR (Full of the East - Life in the GDR)
Photographs by Harald Hauswald with texts by Stefan Wolle
The OSTKREUZ Agentur der Fotografen and the Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED-Diktatur invite with the exhibition to a picture journey into the time of division. More than 100 known and unknown photos of Harald Hauswald are shown on 20 panels. Harald Hauswald photographed in East Berlin in the 1980s and captured this time in his numerous pictures. The pictures show scenes from everyday life, young and old people, couples in love, rockers, football fans, hooligans and young people who worked for peace and environmental protection in the church. In an impressive way, they authentically document life in the former GDR. The texts of the exhibition were written by the historian and author Stefan Wolle, who grew up in the GDR like the photographer.
The exhibition panels link QR codes to short video interviews on the Internet in which the photographer reports on how and in which context the central photograph of the panel was taken. Accompanying the exhibition, Andreas Otto, among other things spokesman for the reappraisal of GDR history in the Berlin House of Representatives, offers guided tours through the exhibition followed by a discussion for school classes. Appointments can be requested from Ms Politzka in the library at the Water Tower under tel. 030 902953921.
