Museum Pankow, Prenzlauer Allee location
As there are currently not enough supervisors available, the permanent exhibition “Gegenentwürfe” will remain closed until further notice.
The Museum Pankow is part of the Sebastian Haffner Cultural and Educational Center. It is located in the middle of the Prenzlauer Berg district, just a few hundred meters from Kollwitzplatz.
The former school building, completed in 1886, houses rooms for permanent and special exhibitions on the second floor and the archive with its depots and reading room on the floor above. The large event and special exhibition hall is located in the courtyard and the museum's administrative offices are in the front building on Prenzlauer Allee.
The permanent exhibition “Gegenentwürfe. Prenzlauer Berg before, during and after the fall of the Wall” brings to life the counter-designs lived in Prenzlauer Berg to the prevailing real socialism, but also to the new social and political reality after the Peaceful Revolution of 1989 and reunification. Based on seven locations in Prenzlauer Berg, many of the controversial conflicts on topics such as co-determination, urban redevelopment, education, environmental protection, the economic system and social responsibility from the end of the 1970s to the present day are presented.
In the hallway and stairwell, there is also a photo exhibition entitled “Zeitbilder. Life in Pankow, Prenzlauer Berg and Weißensee 1949 to 1990”.
In addition, there are changing special exhibitions in room 108 and in the large exhibition hall.
Admission to all exhibitions and events is free.
