Between datcha Idylle, VEB-canteen and detention in Bautzen: “Alltag in der DDR” is the theme of the permanent exhibition, which can be seen in the museum in the Kulturbrauerei.On 600m2,the original objects, documents, film and sound recordings show the gap between the onesin power and the reality of life in the GDR. Stories from the world of experienceof individuals demonstrate different attitudes in the Communist dictatorship from staunch supporters,over to attempted abstinence, up to the resistance.
The permanent exhibition “Alltag in der DDR” shows the life of the East Germans at work, in public, and in private during the 1970sand 1980s. It shows how the SED regime controlled everyday life, how the people dealt with shortages and limits, and where they found free space.
