Zimmer 16

Great art on a small stage in the heart of Pankow

Zimmer 16 in Florastrasse is a venue for music, theater, comedy and film: live, handmade and sophisticated. The rooms of the cabaret stage are also an exhibition space for painting and photography. The term “cabaret stage” is to be taken quite literally, as the stage measures just 16 square meters and room 16 only 120 square meters in total with 60 seats or 90 standing places, which makes for an intimate atmosphere.

In the 50s and 60s, the “Flohkiste” movie theater was located here. Today, everyone can get their fill of culture for little money in Room 16, whether young or old, at around 300 events a year. For many singer-songwriters, Zimmer 16 has long been as familiar as a living room, where many a career has begun. Music and poetry, concerts with both well-known and as yet unestablished artists, including less popular and experimental genres, as well as open stages are held on several evenings. At weekends, the youngest members of this child-rich neighborhood are invited to children's concerts, fairy tales and puppet shows.

Zimmer 16 is a project of the MIKADO e.V. support association, which was founded in 2002 and is supported exclusively by the voluntary commitment of its members and employees. They stand at the bar, manage the entrance and operate the technology. The running costs are covered by members' contributions, private donations, income from events and sometimes with funding from the state of Berlin or the federal government.
