In the past 350 years, the Schönhauser was a residential palace of the nobility, royal summer residence, museum, storage room, school, the seat of Government and State Guest House.

On three floors there are for the visitors, a total of 27 rooms elaborately decorated according to historical requirements:The ground floor is reserved for the Prussian Queen Elisabeth Christine, the wife of Frederick the Great.She used the palace as a summer residence in the 18th century for more than 50 years. In the audience room, you can seebooks of the queen, part of a cutlery set, and alsohersedan chair.Here, as well as in the antechamber, you can view numerous contemporary paintings in the garden room and in the white chamber.The room architecture with stucco decorations, upholstery and color arrangements, paneling and parquet and marble floors are reconstructed after original templates.
 
The upper floor of the exhibition rooms is dedicated to the noble family zu Dohna, to whom the originalSchönhauserPalace building dates back to in the1660s.Here you can see many original pieces of furniture, works of art from the silver chamber, the art chamber and parts of the library from the East Prussian Schlobitten Palace, where the Dohna family had its main residence until 1945.Already in 1943, Prince Alexander zuDohna had begun to evacuate several art objects of the family from East Prussia. Also, these roomsare designed and kept according to the originalsand convey a picture of the original appearance.
 
Likewise, on the upper floor is the working room of the first president of the GDR, Wilhelm Pieck, furnished with writing desk and conference furniture.Between 1949 and 1960, Schönhausen Palace was the seat of the head of State of the GDR, then it was used from 1964 to 1990 as a state guest-house.From these times originated the office room and the elegant modern presidential garden.After 1960 until 1964 the palace was used as the seat of the State Council of the GDR, it was finally used by the GDR government until 1990 as a guest house.The kept-up state guest apartment is furnished inthe styleof the 1960s, whilst the fireplace room shows the new setup from 1978. In these rooms were well-known personalities like Indira Gandhi or MichailGorbatschow as a guest.
Explanatory texts andaccompanying picture material on big steles as well as audio guidesopen up to the guests of the Palace Museum, a vivid picture, thus demonstrating in the rooms the historical functionsandthe accompanying changes of its time.

Summer season: Tuesday till Fridaytour with a guide
