ausland
"ausland" is an independent venue for music, film, literature, performance and other artistic endeavors. "ausland" supports artists and projects with its infrastructure for rehearsals, recordings and workshops.
Located in the basement of a formerly squatted, now collectively used house and rooted in Berlin's squatter subculture of the 1990s, "ausland" operates with its programs in the gap between underground and mainstream, DIY subculture and art establishment. The events at "ausland" are often realized without a budget and made possible by volunteer engagement.
Opened in 2002, ausland is run by a collective of volunteers: Artists and/or culture and DIY enthusiasts from different countries and backgrounds. The cross-genre programme is designed by the volunteers' own initiative or in cooperation with external partners from the independent art scene or institutions in Berlin and abroad.
